Schraube-und-Mutter.de
Expression of thanks: We are very much obliged to Gabriele Schaefer, proprietor of Spielwaren Emmert (a toy shop), for the generous donation of both the main prizes (MECCANO Steamboat and MECCANO Airship). Anyone not fortunate to win or who wishes to build the “crazy inventors“ models earlier, can get all the new MECCANO from Gabriele Schaefer.
Category 1 – An unusual Minimodel
Model: Pat Edkins
Task: Build an unusual model within a maximum of 20 parts (not including nuts, bolts and washers). The most ingenious and amusing use of parts will win the competition.
Of course previously published models are excluded from the competition.
Material: You can use any metal building system (eg Meccano, Maerklin, Metallus, Construction, Merkur, Stokys, Stabil, Trix etc). However mixing different systems is not permitted, for example Meccano and Maerklin must not be used together. Parts must not be mutilated or bent sharply.
Nuts and bolts may be replica parts, but must fit into the selected system. Washers may be from any source.

Entry: Competitors should send pictures of the model (about 3 pictures, max. 60 KB per picture) to the email address given above. Please add a parts list, your age, name and address.
Alternatively you may post pictures and information to the address given in the Imprint (Impressum).
Examples:
Patricia Edkins is one of the most ingenious Meccano builders. She specialises in small and very unusual models, full of clever ideas. She has even created a knitted blanket from Meccano string (it is not known whether Pat used Meccano axle rods as knitting needles). Other models of hers include a famous Fabergé egg and a paraffin lamp made from a MECCANO hook. Pat is member of the Midlands Meccano Guild (like the author of this page).

Category 2 – A technical challenge
Task: Build a self-propelled model with a weight between 1 and 2 kg, which takes as long as possible to cover 1 metre.

Of course, previously published models are excluded from the competition.
Material: You can use any metal building system (eg Meccano, Maerklin, Metallus, Construction, Merkur, Stokys, Stabil, Trix etc). However mixing different systems is not permitted, for example Meccano and Maerklin must not be used together. Parts must not be mutilated or bent sharply.Nuts and bolts may be replica parts, but must fit into the selected system. Washers may be from any source.

No motor or essential parts of a motor may be used.

Water, sand or similar materials are not part of a metal building system, but air is.
How can you win the contest? Measure the time your model takes to travel 1 metre.
The winner is that model which completes the distance in the longest time.
The appearence of the model is not of any relevance.
If two models have exactly the same time, the winner will be found by drawing lots.
Conditions: Measurement must be on a smooth, level plane, starting at the moment when the movement begins.
The model has to move in a straight line and must not stop or change its direction although it is allowed to accelerate, become slower or sway from side to side.
The model may be pushed at the start and/or switched on, but after that the supply of energy (for example wind energy, suction etc) from outside the model is not allowed.
Not only are motors (both electric and clockwork) banned, but any springs or rubber bands must not be tensioned at the point of starting.

It must be possible to rerun the model without replacing any parts.
All the conditions are to be applied fully as a condition of entry.

2nd place:
